Heavy synths. Deep soul. Straight fire.
Released in 1981, “You’re the One for Me” was the breakout single from D-Train (vocalist James Williams and producer Hubert Eaves III). It marked a shift from traditional disco to a new electronic sound — blending funk, gospel-influenced vocals, and cutting-edge synths to create a genre-defining dance record.
The track became a club anthem in New York and beyond, especially in Black and queer dance spaces where post-disco innovation was at its peak. Its futuristic sound influenced genres like house, boogie, and freestyle.
Pressed by Prelude Records, one of the most important independent dance labels of the era, this 12-inch became a DJ weapon thanks to its crisp production and extended instrumental breaks. Prelude’s label — slick, minimal, and unmistakable — is printed on this tee just as it appeared on the original vinyl.
Before house. Before electro. There was D-Train. Wear “You’re the One for Me” and rep the future of funk.
