First Choice “Love Thang” (Salsoul Records)

“It’s a love thang — it’s got me going.”

Released in 1979, “Love Thang” kept First Choice at the center of the disco universe. Coming off the success of “Doctor Love,” this track turned up the tempo, layered on the funk, and showcased the group’s signature harmonies and diva energy. With a driving bassline, soaring vocals, and that unmistakable Philly soul production, it became a favorite in roller rinks and discotheques alike.

Produced once again by Norman Harris and released on Gold Mind Records, “Love Thang” helped solidify First Choice’s place as true innovators in the disco and soul crossover movement. The song was also one of the early inspirations for house music producers in the ’80s, thanks to its rhythm-forward groove.
