When access was denied, we built our own.
The front of this tee features HBCU in bold, powerful letters, with the phrase “1890 Land Grant Institute” underneath — honoring the schools born from a fight for educational equity.
The back breaks it all down:
The Second Morrill Act of 1890 required states — especially those practicing segregation — to establish separate land-grant institutions for Black students if they refused to integrate their existing colleges. That law gave birth to a legacy: 19 HBCUs that specialize in agriculture, science, engineering, and service to the community.
On the back is a full list of the 1890 Land Grant HBCUs, including:
-
Tuskegee University
-
Florida A&M
-
North Carolina A&T
-
Prairie View A&M
-
…and more
These schools didn’t just educate — they empowered generations.
Black land. Black legacy. Black leadership. Represent the 1890 Land Grant HBCUs — and wear the history they grew from.
